The problem

Centro Chía, a shopping mall with 450 stores in Colombia, had no way to make sure tenants kept their opening, break and closing hours. Everything was manual: no traceability, no data and no real consequences for breaking the rules.

What we built

We installed NFC devices inside each of the mall’s 450 stores. Staff tap the device with their phone to log opening, closing and any incident. The system also lets them report problems in the store, request repairs and log any operational event.

A real-time dashboard shows management the status of every store at once, so they can act immediately, including financial penalties for not keeping hours.

Phase 2 (in development) extends the system to the rounds of security guards and cleaning staff in indoor areas and parking lots, making sure scheduled tasks are done with full NFC traceability.

Fictional data

450 stores, and nobody knew who opened on time

Centro Chía had no way to check opening and closing times: it was all done by eye, store by store, with no data. This is how the NFC system solved it.

Resolved example. Enable JavaScript to go through it step by step.

Each store has an NFC tag at its entrance. When they open, staff tap it with their phone. That is all.

At that moment, management’s dashboard marks the store in green. All 450 stores on one screen, with no walking rounds.

If a store has not opened by 10:00, it shows up in red. The fine is applied with data, not by eye.

The result

The system runs in 450 stores with full real-time visibility. Missed hours have gone down, and penalties are now based on objective data.

It has become the operational nervous system of the shopping mall.

Why it’s innovation

NFC applied to shopping mall operations doesn’t exist as a standard product. We turned a human compliance problem into actionable real-time data, with a system that scales to any shopping mall in the world.
